International Scholarships Offered by University Of British Colombia

University of British Colombia is among the top 40 Universities of the world and Canada’s leading research University. The University is home to about 54000 students from all over the world. The university has two major campuses in Canada. The University offers a rich research environment to students in both the campuses. The University also partners with many research centers and institutes to provide research tools to the scholars. The University of British Colombia offers many PhD scholarships to help student financially. Research and teaching assistantship is offered to students which help them to contribute to the teaching at University and also help them to meet the cost of living and research.
The University offers various scholarships to the students enrolled in their doctoral studies. Some of the scholarships offered by the University are as below:
- International Tuition Award – this scholarship was initiated to help the international students conducting their research at the University. The eligibility criteria for the applicant are that they must hold valid Study Permit and must have an offer of place from the University. The value of the scholarship is up to $3200 per year. Students receiving external funding greater than the value of scholarship are not eligible to apply for it. The international students are automatically considered for this award and receive the stipend in three equal installments during the academic year.
- Four Year doctoral fellowship – This scholarship was started with an aim to attract international and domestic students for their research. The outstanding Doctoral students may apply for the fellowship. The funding would be provided for four years and depends on successful progress of the research project. The value of the scholarship includes the tuition fees and an annual stipend of $18000 per year. The scholarship is open to domestic as well as international students. The selection of the candidate is made purely on the basis of academic excellence.
- NSERC Industrial Post Graduate Scholarship – The scholarship is designed especially for the science and engineering students. The PhD scholarship helps them gain industrial experience during their studies at the University. The scholarship encourages students to take career in research to strengthen the Canadian innovation. The value of the scholarship is $21000 annually. The eligibility criteria for the applicants for applying to the scholarship is that the applicant must possess first class academic career, should have a degree in science or engineering from a University acceptable to NSERC and must be enrolled in part-time or full-time graduate studies at the University of British Colombia. International students may also apply for the NSERC IPS funding. The applications are accepted all year round. The continuation of the funding is based on the basis of the progress report of the students. The successful candidates are required to spend minimum 20% of their time in the company to gain industrial experience.
