PhD Scholarships from Concordia University Canada for 2014-15

Montreal-based Concordia University is a comprehensive academic institution that is engaged, welcoming and committed to educational excellence and innovation, community partnerships, and creative activity. To continue such commitment, the university offers its Quebec Merit Scholarship for Foreign Nationals for the incoming academic year 2014-2015. The PhD scholarships under this study grant program are made accessible to students in search of expert advancement or short-term research, doctoral, and postdoctoral exploration.
Although it is the FQRNT that administers the program, eligible candidates are entitled to apply through a university nomination since they are prohibited to directly apply to the agency. University-nominated students are the only allowed candidate to submit application for any of the PhD scholarships offered by the program to its provincial competition. Among the disciplines with these scholarships are engineering, pure sciences, social sciences, fine arts, computer science, humanities, etc.
Each of the recognized university in Quebec to nominate a potential scholar may submit the following:
- Four nominations to each competition’s unrestricted competition.
- Two nominations to the competition of the International Doctoral FQRNT in the fields of health and technology, nanotechnology, information technology and communication, genomics and aerospace.
- Two nominations to the competition of the International Doctoral FQRSC in the fields of humanities, fine arts and social sciences.
- One nomination intended for Brazil for every competition in postdoctoral, short term research and doctoral levels.
- One nomination intended for India for every competition in postdoctoral, short term research and doctoral levels.
- One nomination intended for Wallonie for every competition. Remember that no postdoctoral competition is available for this category of the program.
The doctoral research PhD scholarships value at $25,000 annually for a maximum of three years and are tenable within the doctoral program’s first nine terms. Under the merit scholarship program, recipients will be given exemption from their international tuition fee payment and from their medical insurance coverage. The program’s postdoctoral fellowships value at $35,000 annually, which cannot be renewed. They are designed for the study of new researchers with a maximum of two years in their degree before the specified date of deadline for the competition or those who can submit their own dissertation on or before January 2015. Professional development or short-term research scholarships value at $3,000 every month that are tenable for a maximum of four months. These study grants are offers to university or technical students or to researchers who already finished their doctoral degree for five years at most.
Qualified PhD students for all the competitions of the merit scholarship program should meet its eligibility conditions, not have received any foreign national merit scholarship, not a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of the country, not yet submitted application for any of its programs, and not yet applied for the immigration law’s permanent residency.
Concordia University announces that referees, supervisors, or candidates of these PhD scholarships should submit to the student’s Department not later than July 30, 2013 and that nominations be submitted to the Graduate Awards Office on August 15, 2013 the latest.
