Online PhD Degree programs – University of Melbourne – Professional Doctorate in Medical Science

The Melbourne Medical School of the University of Melbourne is the oldest medical school in Australia and has gained an international reputation for the quality of its teaching and health research. Many of the school’s graduates have gone on to make significant contributions to the body of knowledge in their field of specialization.
The research Doctor in Medical Science (DMedSc) is intended for experienced medical practitioners who would like to earn an advanced qualification but whose professional responsibilities do not allow them to undertake a full-time course of study. Participants in DMedSc online PhD degree programs are expected to complete the program in four years commencing from the start of their candidature.
Applicants to DMedSc online PhD degree programs must have a Bachelor of Medicine or Bachelor of Surgery earned from an Australian university or equivalent qualifications from recognized overseas tertiary institutions. Overseas applicants must also meet the course’s English-language requirements. Candidates will undertake a supervised program of research lasting not less than two years which will be written up in a doctoral thesis of 50,000 to 80,000 words but not to exceed 100,000 words. Alternately, candidates may earn a DMedSc by submitting a portfolio of published papers which should be of relevance to the practice of medicine and make a substantial contribution to the body of knowledge in the field.
International students enrolled in DMedSc online PhD degree programs through published papers are not required to visit the country to be awarded the doctorate; however, they must have a demonstrable past relationship with the department prior to submission of the portfolio.
