Applicants to D.Ed online PhD degree programs should have a Masters in Education or in a discipline related to the candidate’s proposed area of research with an H2A grade average (or the equivalent recognized qualification), and at least five years of full-time teaching or professional experience in a relevant field. Candidates must also provide evidence of the ability to conduct doctoral-level research. Foreign students are required to produce high scores in the TOEFL or IELTS as proof of proficiency in the language. In the first part of the program, scholars must enroll in mandatory coursework in advanced research methodology and take electives in specialized Masters-level subjects. They will then undertake a thesis of 55,000 words which will make a significant contribution to practice in the candidate’s professional field.
Students taking D.Ed online PhD degree programs are required to provide a 4,000-word report on the progress of their research halfway through their enrollment in the thesis, and make a presentation before a panel of at least three faculty members. Students whose progress is deemed unsatisfactory even after being asked to revise the report may not be allowed to continue with the program and will exit with a Master of Education.
