Vice Chancellor’s PhD Scholarships at Bournemouth University for 2014-15

With its strong reputation for a wide range of postgraduate and undergraduate education, enterprise and research; Bournemouth University or BU is an institution that becomes finalist to the most coveted Research Project of the Year and University of the Year at the 2009 Times Higher Education Awards. Its traditional scheme following professional courses is lifted toward research investment in different research groups and widens the scope of its contribution to the national and regional economies. It continues to develop new programmes and initiatives with its clear future vision to realise the potential of its students and staff. Part of its vision is to offer its students with PhD scholarships including its Vice-Chancellor PhD Scholarships.

The 2014 Vice-Chancellor PhD Scholarships of BU is offered to outstanding PhD student applicants who wish to study with certain research team or supervisor. BU clarifies that these scholarships will be provided in a fee waiver only and will be appropriated by the Faculty or School to the success candidates. The study grants are available to international and EU/UK students who would like to study in full-time courses, except for part-time courses offered at the university. Note that these awards are primarily developed to attract sponsorship from business, the government or industry. Field work, conference attendance and research costs are also covered by the grants.

To be considered for the Vice-Chancellor PhD Scholarships, applicants are expected to demonstrate their outstanding qualities and should be motivated to complete their study in three years for full-time or four years for part-time. Candidates should satisfy the minimum doctorate for studentships of an Upper Second Class honours degree at 2.1 grade and/or any of its equivalent Masters degree. International students whose English is a second language should have IELTS score of at least 6.5. Candidates’ skills, background and qualities are also merited for the scholarships.

Candidates are then required to complete the scholarship application form in word file BU Research Degree Application 2014 and then submit it to significant School Research Administrator via email. Applicants are kept noted of different school research administrators where they should submit their application form including Denise George for Business School at bsresearch@bournemouth.ac.uk, Naomi Bailey or Louise Pearson for the Faculty of Science and Technology at scitechresearch@bournemouth.ac.uk, Karen Ward for the School of Health and Social Care at hscresearch@bournemouth.ac.uk, Jan Lewis for Media School at msresearch@bournemouth.ac.uk, and Denise George for the School of Tourism at stresearch@bournemouth.ac.uk. They should also be kept posted of the closing date for the application form submission, which is on May 30, 2014.

Bournemouth University is also calling for the Vice-Chancellor PhD Scholarships applicants not to ignore the set requirements and the date of submission to become successful in their application.
