Graduate Teaching and Research Assistant Scholarships at the University of Manchester for 2014-15

Situated within Manchester, the University of Manchester is a research university established in 2004 through the merger of the Victoria University of Manchester and the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. The university is divided into four Faculties, each of which is even divided into a number of schools. It has formed a number of research institutes, support services and visitor attractions. It serves as the owner and operator of major cultural assets such as Whitworth Art Gallery, Jodrell Bank Observatory and the Manchester Museum. It is reputable for attaining 20 Nobel Laureates and ranking third when it comes to the highest number of single university in UK. Primary to its research agenda is knowledge creation and sharing to put an end to poverty and then encourage sustainability. One way to achieve this then is its scholarship offerings to deserving students such as its PhD scholarships including the Graduate Teaching and Research Assistant or GTRA Scholarships.

The Graduate Teaching and Research Assistant or GTRA Scholarships are available to PhD degree hopefuls who want to pursue postgraduate research course at the University while taking up their doctoral degree with experience in research and teaching. These PhD scholarships are given to excellent doctoral programme applicants who were chosen based on their academic records and their research potential evidence. They will grant tuition fee amounting to £13,000 annually with the additional tuition fees up to the rate in their current home or European Union students.

Eligible candidates for these PhD funding are those who contribute to research financing and those who can provide the university teaching. It is pointed out that all students are potential candidates for these PhD scholarships. International students are also eligible for the funding; however, they will not be afforded with full stipend since the grant will be used in covering international tuition fees that for the first instance.

Successful candidates with appropriate postgraduate qualification who are interested to enroll in the PhD programme from September 2014 and then the Scholarship will then continue for 3 years provided that they will continue their programme and the other requirements for the progress of the study to the next year. Note that the duration of these PhD scholarships will support scholars for three years of their studies in their PhD degree.

It is pointed out that the all the requirements and the downloaded and filled-out application form of the Graduate Teaching and Research Assistant or GTRA Scholarships should be submitted on or before April 17, 2014 and full application should be made on April 7, 2014. Scholarship applications will then be initially short-listed and those included in the list will undergo an interview.
