The University of Lancaster or simply Lancaster University is a research university based in Lancaster, Lancashire, United Kingdom. The university was established in 1964 by Royal Charter. The university came into existence after WWII commenced and higher education became a more important governmental concern. The point was to cope with the exceeding demands on a growing population and an emergence into a more technological age. It was during this time that plate glass universities were established with one of them being Lancaster University. The term plate glass university is the term issued to numerous universities that were founded in the United Kingdom after WWII through the 1960’s during the era of Robbins Report on higher education. The first subjects offered were business, humanities, natural sciences, and an emphasis on languages, with it expanding to technology, and social science.

The Scholarships in Science and Technology provide:
- Access to Research Training Support Grants
- Living allowance of £13,863 annually for 3 ½ years for residents and for 3 years for international students
- Tuition fees paid in full
