40 Fully Funded International PhD Scholarships from Sheffield Hallam University for 2014-15

Sheffield Hallam University is a university based in South Yorkshire, England. Sheffield Hallam University or SHU is one of the largest universities in the United Kingdom with over 37,000 students with over 4000 of those students being international students. The school saw its beginnings in 1836 as the Sheffield Collegiate School and over the years has progressed, went through a few name changes World Wars, and an array of other decorative history.

The school provides a top notch education for its students and attracts a wide variety of different students from all around the world. With the additional international interest the university has seen fit to offer numerous PhD scholarships.

At this time the Sheffield Hallam University is offering 40 fully funded PhD scholarships to postgraduate students to recognize their academic excellence as well as their emerging interest in research. It is the universities strategic plan to invest in exceptional students while integrating research and increase business engagements with professionals and partners, to help potential PhD candidates network.

The PhD scholarships offer full payment of tuition fees as well as an allowance for three years of full time study. The allowance will be the standard bursary national rate by the Research Council UK of £13,863. Of these PhD scholarships two different types of scholarships are available for students.

The first scholarship available is given by the Graduate Teaching Assistantship or GTA and the Graduate Tutor or GT. These scholarships are available to help encourage and develop the next generation of teachers and academic scholars. The recipients of these scholarships will complete their PhD research degrees and have the added opportunity to gain invaluable experience with university teaching.

The second set of PhD scholarships are given by the Vice-Chancellor. These postgraduate scholarships are given on academic merit base and are used to help research goals for the institution. They are also designed for a broader subject range and recipients will not be expected to teach.

Postgraduate research at Sheffield Hallam University is amongst the highest in research in the United Kingdom. It was estimated that roughly 70% of the university’s research activities were acknowledged on an international quality level. Recent PhD research work includes some of the following:
