20 International PhD Studentships from Birmingham City University for 2014-15

Birmingham City University or BCU is a university in Birmingham, England establishing roots all the way back to 1843. The university went through a variety of different names before finally settling on Birmingham City University of BCU. Since establishment the university has worked hard to provide its students with a quality, professional, friendly, and unique environment to promote student focused learning. The university offers the very best in research facilities as well as a purpose driven staff that helps to produce some of the country’s most desirable employable graduates.

There are many different opportunities for students to obtain PhD scholarships or PhD studentships. Currently the Birmingham City University is offering 20 studentships to exceptional postgraduate students in a variety of different departments. BCU is always developing its research community and shares the research focus between their three research facilities the Institute of Digital Experiences and Applications, The Centre for Environment and Society Research and the Centre for Low Carbon Research. With significant findings and improvements in the researching fields BCU has branched out from its core research group to include Cyber Security, Digital Media Technology, and Software Engineering just to name a few.
Additional enquires are always welcome in the fields of digital media, cyber security, computing, software engineering, spatial planning, low-carbon technologies, vehicle and engine technology, energy sustainability, and natural environment management. Applicants can check with the research centers websites to see if your research interests align with any ongoing projects or if a proposal could be delivered for consideration of PhD scholarships.

In order to apply for these PhD scholarships or studentships formal applications need to be completed to the research department accompanied by the applicant’s research proposal that must consist of a minimum of 1000 words with full references. The proposal should clearly outline and explain your research ideas and how they would be studied and applied in a research environment. This gives faculty an idea of where the appropriate placement for each individual would be.

BCU enrolls research students in the months of September and January. All applications should be completed and sent in for consideration no later than the end of May for applicants wishing to start in September and no later than October for applicants wishing to get started in January.
PhD scholarships or studentships are awarded to academically exceptional students. Each department provides different requirements, eligibility terms, as well as award amounts.

Birmingham School of Built Environment in combination with the faculty of Technology, Engineering, and Environment have announced available studentships. All students regardless of country of origin are welcome to apply. Research in this department covers a wide range of spatial planning, ecosystem services, environmental planning, sustainable systems, and construction and built environment just to name a few of the numerous research subjects. The applicants who receive full funded studentships with this department will have tuition fees waved, and an allowance of £13,863. Partial studentships are available that cover the cost of tuition. The studentships are available for full time study for three years as long as satisfactory progress is being made. Students will be accepted on academic merit and their research potential. Application deadlines for this department is 5 May 2014.

Birmingham City University Faculty for Technology, Engineering, and the Environment announced the availability of both partial and fully funded studentships in the areas of communications and information technologies, computing, cyber physical systems, manufacturing, software engineering, video analysis and broadcasting, computer gaming, imaging and sound processing, as well as cybersecurity. The applicants who receive full funded studentships with this department will have tuition fees waved, and an allowance of £13,863. Partial studentships are available that cover the cost of tuition. The studentships are available for full time study for three years as long as satisfactory progress is being made. Students will be accepted on academic merit and their research potential. Application deadlines for this department is 5 May 2014.

Birmingham City University Faculty of Cyber Security & Software Engineering is also offering both partial and fully funded studentships in areas such as digital identity, threat modelling, detecting and mitigating insider and external cyber threats, methodologies and tools for security assurances and testing, just to name a few. Research with this department aims to produce solutions for supporting societal and technological challenges. The applicants who receive full funded studentships with this department will have tuition fees waved, and an allowance of £13,863. Partial studentships are available that cover the cost of tuition. The studentships are available for full time study for three years as long as satisfactory progress is being made. Students will be accepted on academic merit and their research potential. Application deadlines for this department is 5 May 2014.
