This article is a brief overview of the PhD scholarships offered at the University of Central Lancashire.
The University of Central Lancashire takes its name from its location, Lancashire, England. Since 1828, it went through several name changes until it received its university status in 1992. UCLan, its abbreviation, has urban campuses in different locations and established the largest research programs in the United Kingdom. It is composed of the following schools:

UCLan is one of the top 10 universities in the country and consistently awarded with 5 stars in the World University Rankings.
All of the 12 PhD scholarships available at the university are self-funded. This means that interested students should be able to cover the tuition and other program fees from their own resources. Some of the programs entail an additional fee of £3,000 per year.
The PhD scholarships are only given to applicants who will be able to fund their program course. To be successful in their application, the funding should have been set-up ahead of time. The university will assist students who accept the PhD position by providing sources for funds such as tutoring and demonstrating.
Requirements:
- Candidates should have at least a 2.1 honors degree or equivalent in the discipline relevant to the program
- Previous experience or laboratory work will be an advantage
- Candidates must be highly motivated
- An IELTS score of not less than 6.5 or equivalent

All of the self-funded PhD scholarships above accepts applicantions all year round. There is only a limited number of position per program and early submissions are entertained first. For best practice, applications must be sent at the applicant’s earliest convenience. It is important to remember that securing the funding first is the key to an acceptance.
